Ruqyah that is in accordance with the Shariah will involve treatment with the use of some verses of the Quran . The healing benefits of the Quran are mentioned a few times as throughout it ;

Allah says

We send down (stage by stage) in the Quran that which is a HEALING and a mercy to those who believe: to the unjust it causes nothing but loss after loss.

(Surah Isra( The night Journey) 17: Ayat no.82)

Say unto them (O Muhammad): For those who believe it(Quran) is a guidance and a HEALING; and as for those who disbelieve, there is a deafness in their ears, and it is blindness for them. Such are called to from afar.

(Surah Fussilat 41: Ayat no. 44)

Ruqya is a prophetic healing method of treatment using verses of quran or sunnah .It often includes blowing on water or body parts (after reading the ruqya )and giving it to the patient to drink or on the affected part of the body. Some evidences of this from the Sunnah are :

Hadith 1.

Sahih Bukhari Book 71. Medicine

Narrated By ‘Aisha (ra): During the Prophet’s Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam fatal illness, he used to recite the Mu’auwidhat (Surat An-Nas and Surat Al-Falaq) and then blow his breath over his body. When his illness was aggravated, I used to recite those two Surahs and blow my breath over him and make him rub his body with his own hand for its blessings.” (Ma’mar asked Az-Zuhri: How did the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam use to blow? Az-Zuhri said: He used to blow on his hands and then passed them over his face.)

(Sahih Bukhari Volume 007, Book 071, Hadith Number 631.)

Hadith 2.

Sahih Bukhari Book 71. Medicine

Narrated By Abu Said Al-Khudri : Some of the companions of the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam came across a tribe amongst the tribes of the Arabs, and that tribe did not entertain them. While they were in that state, the chief of that tribe was bitten by a snake (or stung by a scorpion). They said, (to the companions of the Prophet), “Have you got any medicine with you or anybody who can treat with Ruqya?” The Prophet’s companions said, “You refuse to entertain us, so we will not treat (your chief) unless you pay us for it.” So they agreed to pay them a flock of sheep. One of them (the Prophet’s companions) started reciting Surat-al-Fatiha and gathering his saliva and spitting it (at the snake-bite). The patient got cured and his people presented the sheep to them, but they said, “We will not take it unless we ask the Prophet (whether it is lawful).” When they asked him, he smiled and said, “How do you know that Surat-al-Fatiha is a Ruqya? Take it (flock of sheep) and assign a share for me.”(Sahih Bukhari Volume 007, Book 071, Hadith Number 632.)

A man from those staying near the water, came and said to the companions of the Prophet, “Is there anyone among you who can do Ruqya as near the water there is a person who has been stung by a scorpion.” So one of the Prophet’s companions went to him and recited Surat-al-Fatiha for a sheep as his fees. The patient got cured and the man brought the sheep to his companions who disliked that and said, “You have taken wages for reciting Allah’s Book.” When they arrived at Medina, they said, ‘ O Allah’s Apostle! (This person) has taken wages for reciting Allah’s Book” On that Allah’s Apostle said, “You are most entitled to take wages for doing a Ruqya with Allah’s Book.”(Sahih Bukhari Volume 007, Book 071, Hadith Number 633.)

Destroying taweez (amulets)

 When it comes to destroying taweez, there are a number of things to bear in mind.  EQUIPMENT  You will need the following equipment: 1.  A tray - This will ensure that everything stays together and nothing falls on the floor. 2.  A long neck gas lighter – the kind often used for lighting barbecues. 3. A suitable container for burning the ta’weez in. I personally use a stainless steel metal cylinder, but you can use an old pan, or anything that can take the heat. 4. Gloves If the taweez is encased in a container, you will also need: 1.  A pair of pliers and scissors, and possibly other tools to open the case. 2.  Eye protection is recommended. PLEASE NOTE : If the taweez contains knots, you will also need a loose razor blade. If the method calls for ruqyah water, you will also need a bowl of tap water. *Before beginning , we recommend that during the whole process, from beginning to end, the person continually recites al-Falaq and an-Naas.* How to open the taweez: 1.  Open the taweez c
